Puerto Pollensa in Majorca

The resort of Puerto Pollensa on the north western coast of Majorca is about 58 kilometres from the island’s capital Palma (roughly a one hour journey from Palma airport). This wonderful resort is full of things to do, and the atmosphere there is friendly, relaxed, and full of fun. It is also one of the few resorts to have managed to keep its Majorcan charm and remains largely unspoilt.

Surrounded by the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, Pollensa bay is very sheltered, and there are a number of small natural beaches as well as one very large main one which has beautiful shallow waters which make it ideal for families with young children. There bay is also ideal for many water sports including – scuba diving and windsurfing and there are a number of dedicated hire companies that offer all these sports in the resort.

Puerto Pollensa is a relatively small resort by Majorcan standards, it is flat with no hills and you can walk around it very easily. There are a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Unlike many of the larger resorts in Majorca Puerto Pollensa is firmly a family resort so there are virtually no late night clubs and evening hotel entertainment usually wraps up by midnight.
One of the best things about this resort is the people watching – there is nothing better than walking along the beach front towards the fabulous marina area or strolling along the delightful pine walk in the evenings after your dinner.

Puerto Pollensa has a weekly market on a Wednesday – which is a great place to sample a taste of Majorcan culture and is also a great place to stock up on food if you are staying in an apartment.
If you feel like exploring more of the area - take the local bus to Pollensa town – which is an excellent example of a traditional Majorcan town. The bus takes about 20 minutes – once you are there have some lunch in one of the squares and walk up the 365 Calvari steps where you are rewarded at the top by views across the land and out to sea.
Formentor is another place you must visit if you are staying in the resort. The best way to see it is to take the local bus from the bus station at the marina. The journey is an experience, make sure you take your camera as you will be rewarded by incredible views out to see virtually the whole journey. Once you have reached Formentor you can take a leisurely boat journey back to Puerto Pollensa.
Accommodation in Puerto Pollensa – if you are looking for something cheap and cheerful then places like Pollensa Park, Oro playa and Puerto Azul, which are large aparthotel complexes within easy reach of the beach.
If you are looking for somewhere smaller with charm, then the Sis Pins and Miramar offer just that. Both have of which offer great views overlooking the beach.
And if you are looking for something exclusive then the Illa Dor on the pine walk ticks all the boxes. This is where Agatha Christie stayed when she wrote problem at Pollensa Bay.
All in all Puerto Pollensa is a gem of a resort in Majorca which continues to please holiday makers time and time again and if you haven’t been before then now is the time to try it.
