New York is the Movies

New York is a fantastic city. As Alicia Keys says, its a concrete jungle where dreams are made. The architecture is awe-inspiring, both for its art deco style and gigantic scale, the atmosphere is
one of ultra cosmopolitan grandeur, but most of all New York is a fantastic city because it continues to feature as the central theme to so many awesome movies. How many times have you sat down to
watch the latest movie inspired by New York and by the end of it have grabbed the laptop and started searching for cheap flights to New York? Quite simply New York is the movies.

Checking out your favourite movie locations is a great way to see the sights in New York. There's so many to see so just put your trainers on and wander, you will soon stumble upon your favourite sights.

Obviously the Empire State Building stands out as one of the classics where King Kong was found monkeying around on. However many a great beast has been known to treat New York City as a stomping ground - Godzilla made the home of the New York Knicks and event venue, Madison Square Garden its nesting lare. Havoc was caused around the city in Cloverfield and the Brooklyn Bridge was destroyed to keep the zombies on Manhattan in I Am Legend. The Brooklyn Bridge clearly isnt destroyed, in fact the Brooklyn Bridge park is actually going through a rather extreme renovation currently.

Superhereos are frequently "bourne" in New York. Spiderman gave us a good indicator as to the scale of the skyscrapers, although to get a Spiderman's view of the city you need to get to the viewing platforms at top of the Empire State Building or the Rockafeller. The inspiration for the Daily Planet where Superman performed the art of taking his clothes of extremely quickly was actually the Daily News building. Its free to enter the lobby where they have the giant globe. Check out the Empire Diner, which sadly recently closed, this is where the ultra cool Men in Black liked to eat pie and use the special laser gadget to erase peoples memories - a funny mix but the chrome diner is a little bit special. One of the best free things to do in New York and again another location from a New York movie is the tour of the Federal Reserve bank. It is free to take the tour although you have to book well in advance prior to your visit. You can actually go down into the gold vault as John Mclane did in Die Hard with a Vengence. When we're looking at heroes Jason Bourne has to get a mention, the scenes in Bourne Ultimatum show New York to be a fast pace energetic city, which is exactly how it is. However we never did manage to find the training centre at 415 East 71st Street to enrol.

Central Park is a popular location for the movies and definitely worth taking some time to enjoy. Whether its on the boating lake, a stroll to the strawberry fields and John Lennon's mosaic or learning to ice skate at the Wollmans Ice Rink as in Serendipty. From here head to the National History Museum to see Yum Yum, the star of A Night at the Museum.

Shopping is a firm favourite with visitors to New York with Macy's, the world's largest department store and inspiration to the Christmas favourite, Miracle on 34th Street. Fans of Sex in the City will already be aware of the high class fashion shops on Fifth Avenue, even if they are far too expensive they are definitely worth a window shop. Now for some fun - whilst shopping a must do is to head for the FAO Swartz toy store and play the giant floor piano like Tom Hanks in BIG.

New York has so much to offer and clearly is an inspirational city. Visiting the sights that have featured in your favourite movies will give you some fantastic memories. Plus its a great excuse to dust off your video camera and recreate your own scenes. New York really is the Movies!
